A Word Paints a Thousand Pictures

I was at my church in prayer early on Wednesday morning, April 29, 2009. As I was praying I began to pray some Scripture I have committed to memory from St. James.

“Thank you, LORD that You are the Giver of all good things. Every good and perfect gift is from above; coming down from the Father of Lights, in Whom is no variableness or shadow of turning.” I memorized the first chapter of James over ten years ago. During that time I was reading the King James Version. =) Then I continued onto verse 18. “Of His own will begat He us with the word of truth…”

When I said “word of truth” my mind then went to a verse from John. “Sanctify them in Your truth; Your word is truth.” (John 17:17) Here Jesus is praying for His disciples (us) right before He would go to the cross.

From there I was lead to John 6:63. “The words I speak to you are spirit and they are life.”

And from there to John 3:6: “That which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

And then Isaiah 55:11 appeared in my mind. “...[My word] will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire.”

When I started to piece all this together, the revelation that followed was/is mind-blowing. I am still trying to swallow it.

When you are born again, God literally speaks you into eternity.

God spoke once when He created you. But when you are born again; when you are truly conceived and brought from darkness to light, God speaks yet again. He did it with Jesus when He was baptized by John the Baptist. (Luke 3:22) This was conceivably Jesus’ “new birth.” And God spoke. What did He say? “Hear Him.” God didn’t say “See Him.” or “Touch Him.” or “Taste Him.” or even “Love Him.” Jesus said all these Himself later on. But what God said when Jesus was baptized was “HEAR HIM.” See, Jesus IS the Word. (John 1)

What Jesus was saying to Nicodemus in John chapter three was, “Spirit gives birth to [the word.]” Because He later said that His words are spirit. Remember?

When you are born again, you become the word of God!

Is that too much for you to handle? Can’t quite get your head around it? Me too. But I know it’s true. Search the Scriptures, you’ll find it to be true. And get a load of this.

If I am the word of God here on the earth, I MUST return to Him full.

That’s what He said in Isaiah 55:11. “My word cannot return void.” So often I find myself believing that a significant part of God’s master plan depends on my obedience; on me “getting my act together.” But God says, “I’ve already spoken My master plan. It has to happen. I have good reasons for you to help, but when I speak, it’s already done. And when you come back to Me, you’re coming back FULL because my word can’t return to Me empty.”

Chew on that for a while, and then read the next blog entry.
